Editorial Note
The Transformational Mission Series (TMS) is a periodic publication of God’s Ark Rescue Mission designed to document ideas, testimonies, and transformative insights from mission fields across Africa.
Each volume aims to equip, inspire, and challenge missionaries, church leaders, and believers to adopt a holistic approach to mission, one that encompasses both spiritual and social aspects.
Transformational Mission Movement: Raising Kingdom Builders for Africa and Beyond
In a time when mission work across Africa faces increasing challenges, a fresh wave of renewal is emerging. It is called the Transformational Mission Movement (TMM) a bold initiative redefining what it means to be a missionary in the 21st century.
Birthed by God’s Ark Rescue Mission, TMM is not just another program. It is a vision to train and retrain missionaries to become both kingdom ambassadors and community builders. Its message is clear: missions in Africa must go beyond preaching and embrace holistic human and community development.
The Challenge of Attrition
For decades, missionaries in Africa have faced harsh realities, health issues, welfare struggles, family pressure, culture shock, and at times, rigid mission agency policies. These factors have led to what experts call mission attrition a troubling trend where missionaries abandon their fields.
The ripple effect is profound: abandoned mission stations, discouraged young people, and a slowed pace of the global mission movement. It was against this backdrop that the Transformational Mission Movement was born. Its purpose: to equip missionaries with resilience, skills, and modern tools — all while keeping their hearts anchored in Christ.
A Movement Taking Root
The vision is already making waves.
In 2024, the Christian Elders Forum in Kwara State hosted TMM during their annual Ministers’ Conference, where hundreds of ministers were equipped. That same year, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) extended an invitation, leading to groundbreaking training sessions at the ECWA Theological Seminary (ETS) in Igbaja and the United Missionary Church of Africa.
By early 2025, the movement had spread to Ekiti State, where, under the auspices of CAN, more than 500 ministers received practical training.
The training curriculum was anything but traditional. Beyond theology, it explored:
• Strategic outreach and soul-winning
• Community development tools
• Human capacity building
• Regenerative agriculture
• Integrative medicine
• Organic poultry farming
• Sustainable leadership models
The result was not just inspiration but innovation. Out of the two-week training emerged the Ministers Economic Empowerment Forum (MEEF) a platform designed to harness resources for kingdom advancement and community transformation.
Rediscovering Jesus’ Model
The philosophy behind the Transformational Mission Movement is simple yet profound: every African community is a resource center. With the right training, missionaries can use locally available resources to build capacity, foster development, and uplift lives.
This reflects the ministry of Jesus Himself, who not only proclaimed the kingdom but also met people’s physical needs. TMM believes today’s missionaries must embrace the same holistic model, preaching the Word while transforming communities.
Kingdom Soldiers, Not Just Denominational Representatives
“Our goal is not to raise missionaries who merely represent denominations,” says Evang. Amb. Gbenga Babalola, Global Director of God’s Ark Rescue Mission. “We are raising kingdom soldiers, men and women who will serve entire communities.”
Through partnerships with mission schools, Bible colleges, churches, and ministries, TMM is creating a network of leaders who are not only spiritually strong but also practically equipped to meet 21st-century challenges.
A Call for Generational Renewal
The movement also recognizes an urgent need among the younger generation. Many senior missionaries are approaching retirement, and without a new wave of younger, passionate, and skillful workers, the mission heritage risks fading away.
TMM stands as a bridge — mentoring the next generation, preserving the legacy of the fathers, and igniting fresh fire for global missions.
Reflection & Call to Partnership
The harvest is still plenty, and the laborers remain few. The Transformational Mission Movement invites believers, churches, and institutions to partner in building a new generation of missionaries who embody both spiritual depth and practical wisdom.
Join us in this vision together, and we can make Africa a strong base for global missions.
